These journeys can count towards your Sea Kayak Award or just come along for the experience.

Time: 10am - 3pm sea trip of approx 4-5 hours

Location will be confirmed 1 week before. These trips will depend on the weather, as to the location. Folkestone Harbour/Warren, and Hythe Bay. All based around the English Channel or Themes estuary.

Sea Kayak Tours will be taking place throughout #2023, in sea kayak, SOT or a touring kayak, fixtures in place are: 1/4, 15/4, 27/5, 1/7

Please note: These sessions need a minimum of 4 to run, and we can take up to a maximum of 6 paddlers. Minimum age: 14 . Suitable for paddlers coming up for discover award standard. Not suitable for novices.

Wet /dry suits essential (we do not supply these). Please bring your own packed lunch and water.

Age 14-17 Members: £35 | Non-members £40

Sea Kayak Award Assessment : Extra charge of £30 (before booking this assessment, instructor will need to advise if you are at the correct level for this)

SEA KAYAK TOUR

Aim...to develop your skills and ability to apply appropriate decision making for an enjoyable and safe day out on the sea.

Location....weather, sea state, tide, wind, HW/LW, access and environment.

Getting ready....what will we wear, what craft will we use (sea kayak, touring kayak, sit-on), what additional equipment will we take, what plans will we make (using a map, identifying features). Loading and carrying equipment.

At the water....considerations, other users using this water, communication to group and others, safety and rescue, getting to the water, getting to the water.

Sea kayak skills....effective, forward, backward, sideways and sideways on the move, stopping, turning, correction, edging, support, skegs, negotiating confined spaces (rocks, markers, harbour entrances, moored boats.

Working as a group....staying together, coping with conditions, dealing with mishaps, self rescue, rescue others in the group, towing.

  • Location will be confirmed 1 week before. These trips will depend on the weather, as to the location. Folkestone Harbour/Warren, and Hythe Bay. All based around the English Channel or Themes estuary.

  • Location will be confirmed 1 week before the tour.

  • Please arrive 15 minutes ahead of the session.

  • The trips are strictly for those aged 14 and over who have some paddling expertise.

  • This trip is NOT for beginners.

  • Minimum group size 4, maximum group size 6

  • All paddlers must wear wetsuits or similar wet / cold weather gear.
